“Urban Jazz Collective” is formed by band leader, guitarist, composer and arranger Girts Celmins. Band is located in Maastricht, the Netherlands, but it unites members from all over the world - Latvia, Estonia, Spain, Korea, Turkey and the Netherlands.
At its core is a hard-swinging rhythm section featuring guitar, double bass, piano/organ, and drums, complemented by an explosive horn section of trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, and trombone.
The ensemble primarily showcases original compositions by Girts Celmins, drawing from diverse styles such as hard bop, swing, and soul. beside that collective also performing music by greatest jazz musicians of all time - like John Coltrane, Benny Golson, oliver nelson, wayne shorter, herbie hancock and others.
With a commitment to pushing musical boundaries and engaging audiences, the Urban Jazz Collective is poised to make a significant impact on the contemporary jazz scene.

Before anything existed at all, there was nothingness, and where is nothingness, there is silence in the space.For "AIM 2023" I created artificial character who is witnessing the creation of everything. The message I’m delivering is about the connection, between me and the space, between us and the universe, and the conclusion would be that everything that exist is united - it’s one unit. On 17th of November at 19:30 at Conservatorium Maastricht, Netherlands I performed my original music "Silence In The Space" which includes collaboration between rhythm section and string quartet of Conservatorium Maastricht.Recording will be available soon…
COMPOSER, ARRANGER, EDUCATOR
I am Girts Celmins, a composer, arranger and educator originally from Latvia, but currently based in Maastricht, Netherlands.
With over 15 years of musical experience, I specialize in composing for a variety of ensembles, including string quartets, chamber orchestras, jazz bands, and big bands, along with a deep interest and knowledge in film scoring.
My educational background spans over a decade, where I have served as a band leader, conductor and instructor, imparting knowledge in jazz/pop guitar, music theory, and arranging. Proficient in music notation software such as "Sibelius," I'm skilled to prepare a detailed and professional musical scores.
“GC QUARTET”
Jazz quartet was created at the end of 2022 by band leader Girts Celmins.
Members of the “GC Quartet” are - Girts Celmins (guitar), Timo Bakker (piano), Dominic Choung (double bass) and Micky Laheij (drums).
“GC Quartet” repertoire is mostly based on the be-bop and hard-bop musical traditions.
Beside playing arranged jazz tunes from Benny Golson, John Coltrane, Duke Pearson and many others, the quartet is also performing original music of the guitar player and composer, Girts Celmins.
Although the existence of “GC Quartet” is not that long, musical chemistry between band members is already there.
